The Department for international cooperation

Cooperation with important institutions and individuals

The Karic Foundation has been developing intensive international cooperation with the desire to make its full contribution to the integration of Yugoslavia and Serbia in world scientific, cultural, political and economic trends. The Foundation was particularly active in this in the period of sanctions imposed on Yugoslavia.

As a private, non-governmental organization it was in a position to organize numerous visits of parliamentary delegations from Great Britain, the USA, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, then visits of representatives of international organizations and movements, numerous scientific institutions, as well as representatives of the most influential media from Europe and the rest of the world.

Thus the Foundation helped representatives of influential international circles to learn about events in our country and hear our explanations of the circumstances in the territory of the former Yugoslavia.

In that period the Foundation was also a co-organizer and co-financier of " Serbia Week in Israel" and "Serbia Week in Thessaloniki" with very rich cultural programmes. On that occasion the BK group president and vice president Bogoljub Karic and Sreten Karic were pronounced honorary citizens of Thessaloniki.

The Karic Foundation established contacts with the International Red Cross and UNICEF, with which it organized and co-finances a number of humanitarian concerts. The Karic Foundation also established contacts with a number of other distinguished international foundations such as the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bonn, the Foundation for Peace and Social Progress in Chicago and others.
As a special sign of recognition the Karic Foundation and "BK" university received a gift from a well-known German scientist Wilhelm Kaltenschtadler: He donated his personal, highly valuable library of books on geography, ecology, economics and economic history with rare editions from the 19th and 20th century.
The Foundation supports international meetings of scientists, artists and politicians, and it was the co-organizer (together with the Institute of Strategic Studies and Development "Petar Karic") of numerous round-table discussions and symposiums. Thus a round-table discussion entitled "Science and the challenges of a new millenium" (1994) was held with the participation of the highest representatives of the Serbian and Russian Academy of science.

The following symposiums and round-table discussions were also held; "The Role of Religion in the Peaceful Settlement of Conflicts" (1997) organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Theology in Belgrade, "Scientific Ethics in an Era of Globalization" (1998) with the participation of distinguished world statesmen, former heads of state and governments, scientists and diplomats;

Then, "The Russian Federation, Yugoslavia and the World on the Eve of the Third Millenium" (1998) with participation of Russian, Serbian and Slovak sociologists and "New achievements in the Study of Consciousness" (1998) with the participation of distinguished scientists from Russia and in cooperation with the Centre for Clinical Medicine in Belgrade.
