MILANKA KARIC

Milanka Karic was born in Pec in a patriarchal family. Her parents Milan and Bosa Babic have raised four children, two sons and two daughters in a patriotic spirit and a system of traditional values - loyalty to their people and religion, close family ties.

She studied Law and worked in a number of responsible positions in the BK Company while living in Pec.

In 1979 together with her sisters-in-law she founded the first Social Council of the BK Company which grew into the Karic Foundation.

Since then Milanka Karic has devoted most of her energy to the organization of the Foundation's activities, always stressing its motto - Charity is the only treasure which grows with giving.

Every man is a little Foundation - says Mrs. Milanka Karic - for, in the course of his life he helps others in many ways. We learn about this in our family, and this has always been the most important principle in the Karic family - mutual help and harmony. We in the family are all aware that harmony and mutual help have allowed us to attain our successes.

Milanka and Bogoljub Karic have four children: Nebojsa (1979), Nadezda - Neda (1981), Jelena (1982) and Danica (1985).

"Bistrica" is the name of the CD with authentic Serbian songs recorded by Milanka Karic. The Serbian television devoted one whole episode of its most popular series of the kind "Leti, leti, pesmo moja mila" to the videos of songs on this CD. The total income from CD and cassette sales go to the Foundation.

OLIVERA  NEDELJKOVIC

Olivera Karic is the only daughter and the fourth child of Janicije and Danica Karic. Growing up with four brothers she has always wanted to be their equal in everything - in play, school, and in business.
The only difference was in the attention and tender care she was surrounded with: "They cared the world for me, both my parents and brothers", Olivera Karic often says.

She finished elementary and grammar school in Pec, and her studies in Leskovac and Nis. From the very first day when the Social Council was founded for the employees of the BK Company in Pec (which grew into the Foundation), Olivera Karic was the president and the driving force behind all its actions.

"The main idea behind the Foundation of our Social council was to spread the spirit cherished in our family - helping each other - to all employees in our firm and their families. We used to buy food and fuel and school textbooks. We made financial contributions for summer holidays and loans for building family houses", says Mrs. Olivera Karic.

She is married Novica Nedeljkovic, who, she says, is her greatest support. Olivera and Novica Nedeljkovic have three children: Aleksandra (1979), Aleksandar (1982) and Gorica (1984).

In 1995 the family moved to London. Since then Olivera Nedeljkovic has been living between Belgrade and London and working for the Karic Foundation in both cities. She is also active in the BK University where she organizes special summer courses for children and adults in language, acting, painting and photography.

HAFA KARIC

Hafa Karic was born in Livno. Her parents, Dervis and Naza Mulic, raised their four children, three daughters and a son, in a strict spirit and taught them to be modest and honest people.

Hafa first met her husband Dragomir in her hometown. It was love at first sight. After a month-and-a-half Dragomir got a wife, and the "Karic brothers" orchestra an exceptional singer.

When they had children, three sons and a daughter, Hafa devoted all her energy to them, and followed her husband where his business took him - to Belgrade, Moscow and London.

The Foundation's actions in these capitals are highly respected, not only by our people, but also by similar local and international humanitarian organizations with which the KB Foundation has established good contacts. Talking about this, Hafa D. Karic says: "Our motto is - Together we are stronger. Therefore we cherish close cooperation with other humanitarian organizations. The Karic Foundation not only helps the work of others but also encourages our younger generations to involve themselves in different humanitarian actions".

Hafa Karic is the founder and president of the Karic Foundation branches in Moscow and London for the last four years.

Dragomir and Hafa Karic have four children: Sasa (1971), Simon (1974), Jugoslav (1979) and Danijela (1984) and six grandchildren: Dragana (1992), Sasa (1994), Janicije (1995), Teodora (1996), Konstantin (1998), and Aleksandar (1999).

Hafa Karic recorded her best songs - old folk songs and "sevdalinke" - on a CD and a cassette, and the proceeds from their sale go to the Foundation.

We four daughters-in-law, and our sister-in-law, Olivera followed the advice of our mother-in-law, Danica, in everything. She helped us look after our children and she used to tell us: "Go and work with your husbands, help them in everything", reminisces Slavica Karic.
